Henry’s Child is a prog rock band from Eugene, a mainstay on the local scene in the early/mid 90’s, I can remember seeing them at the Venetian theatre in Albany a number of times. A consistent high energy live show with some tasty and gritty compositions such as “failure” and the culturally forward song “human being”.
When I popped back up into the local music scene in 2010 a question I kept hearing was what ever happened to Henry’s Child, I would have to wait another six years to see them storm back onto the scene, and with a purpose.
Well ladies and gentlemen Henry’s Child has recorded their third album “I have become” to be released 22 years to the day since releasing “Clearly confused” on April 27th 1997.
Saturday April 27th 2019 at Sessions Music Hall located at 44 E 7th Ave in Eugene Oregon, Henry’s CD release party is going down with another longtime local favorite band Jollymon.
This saturday night is looking like a historic night for the band and their throngs of loyal fans.
I sat down with the boys Tommy Tessandori, Andrew Smith, Tobby Lugo, & Rich Clinton and asked a few questions about the new album.
Andrew how was the recording process for this album,
“The recording process tested our patience like few things in my life…
We started recording 2 or 3 years ago. We had 5 songs finished and in the mixing process then Rich and I determined they did not sound like us. So We canned the entire thing”
So Tommy how was the process for you?
“The studio for me is the hard part, what I really loved was writing new music together. That’s the best! It’s great to be expressive without the constraints of having to repeat yourself or fit a particular style. We’re better musicians now and I think that is helpful to making memorable music.”
So do any of you have a favorite? Tobby explained the reasons for his favorite track “ “My favorite track is Wires because it has the strangest time signature of the album and some of the coolest changes!”
With the CD release party happening Saturday Night, anyone feeling butterflies yet? Rich tells me “I don’t have any butterflies, just anxiousness mixed with excitement.”
The guys informed me that a video is due out any day now for the song “Stars in your eyes”
Well I can’t speak for everybody but I do know that there are a lot of people excited about the new music and the release party this weekend.
